Time Capsule 《時間容器》

During Melbourne’s perpetual COVID lockdowns from 2020, many things happened. When people are not spontaneously relatively isolated from each other, Mantra meditation helps communicate with the inner self through the spiritual practice approach with a heart-mind of devotion and reverence. The sense of reflection behind the artworks is an attempt to contemplate “The Doctrine of emptiness”.

The Heart Sutra, 2021  《心經》

The Heart Sutra is famous in Mahayana Buddhism. The Sutra famously states, “Form is emptiness, emptiness is form,” which is the nature of reality. The Heart Sutra is the most commonly recited, copied and studied scripture in East Asian Buddhism. Sutra copying is a daily devotional practice and a very inspiring brush meditation in silence and with awareness.

心經是東亞佛教中最常被誦讀、抄寫和研究的經典。 抄寫佛經是一種日常的虔誠修行,也是一種在靜默和覺知中啟發人心的毛筆冥想。

The work Wandering Backyard is a spiritual practice related to consciousness and perception that conveys a certain kind of intrinsic meditative. The restrained tone corresponds with the iridescent world; from the gentle rhyme, one can listen with a sense of silence and solitude; behind the scene is an attempt to contemplate the doctrine of emptiness –– ‘Form is emptiness, emptiness is form.’ (The Heart Sutra famously states)

The sand mandala is a Tibetan Buddhist tradition involving creating and destroying mandalas made from coloured sand to symbolise the Buddhist doctrinal belief in the transitory nature of material life. In Buddhist symbolism, the lotus represents purity, enlightenment, and rebirth. To make this work, I created the lotus image with sand and then brushed it into a pile. The destruction of the work is a reminder of the impermanence of life.

沙曼陀羅是藏傳佛教的傳統,用彩色沙子製作和摧毀沙曼陀羅,象徵佛教教義中物質生命短暫的本質。 在佛教象徵中,蓮花代表純潔、開悟和重生。 我效仿沙曼陀羅,精心完成後摧毀去體悟生命的無常和短暫。
